Canada’s foreign policy is dependent upon our ability to maintain diplomatic relations with other countries. Foreign policy is about international relationships – and Canada has never been more alone.

Canadians are distressed as they witness a pattern of undiplomatic behavior as shown by our Prime Minister’s India trip and inability to alleviate tensions with China and our Foreign Affairs Minister’s flippant diplomacy by tweet.

Foreign policy is complex and as a mid-size power, Canada must understand not only what our values are, but also what is at stake in our economic, trade and foreign relationships. Canada must have a comprehensive and informed foreign policy that balances our values with sovereignty, economic security and international alliances.

I encourage you to click through the links below to see what I have been doing as the Member of Parliament to ensure this important federal priority is heard in the riding and in Ottawa.

Assessing the real cost of selling Canada

June 17, 2020

Canada must be clear-eyed about the implications of foreign takeovers of Canadian companies, not only during the current pandemic but in the long term in the new post-COVID-19 world.

A dramatic reduction in share-prices and the market value of critical resource and tech companies has been a major economic consequence of the temporary measures imposed to protect public health. While many nations are focused on weathering the pandemic, other global powers are using the downturn to further their long-term objectives.

Canada is an attractive target...

Reviewing Canada’s position on the world stage

On January 8th, 2020, our country was devastated to learn that Ukraine International Flight 752 had been shot down with 176 victims, of whom 57 were Canadians. Our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to all who are suffering from this devastating tragedy. As Canada mourns the loss of the men, women, and children whose lives were abruptly cut short, we struggle to understand how such a terrible occurrence could happen. The Iranian government has taken responsibility for shooting down Flight 752, adding that it was unintentional. The current Liberal Government has stated its focus is on closure, transparency, accountability, and justice, including compensation...

MP’s June Report – Defending Canada’s Arctic Sovereignty and Nation Building for the Future

In 1867, Canada embarked on a great nation building project. We united as a country and built a railway that connected the country from east to west, bringing security and opportunity to what has become a vital heartland of our nation. It wasn’t easy. It took great leadership, courage and sacrifice – but much of the economic success Canada enjoys today would not have been possible...

In addition to my role as your Member of Parliament, I was recently elected as Chair of the Canadian NATO Parliamentary Association (NATO PA). I lead the Canadian parliamentarians on this association to represent...

A few months in to my term, I was honoured to have been asked to serve as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement.

As Parliamentary Secretary I enjoyed every minute...
